Pooram - Part I

This is the season of Poorams in Kerala, and elephants form one of the most important of the festivities. Above is the display of ornaments (called 'Aanachamayam'), used for decorating the majestic animal.

Taken at 'Chinakkathoor Pooram', famous in my part of Kerala.

Lovely picture!

Reminds me of my childhood trips to Guruvayur with my grandparents. Needless to mention, it was an ordeal for them to manage my brother and me if there was one of these tuskers (there used to be three at that time in the evenings), donned in such glorious jewellery, swaying their trunks to the chenda music thoroughly enjoying themselves! :-)
